Prerequisite: the registrant for this seminar will be assumed to already possess basic levels of knowledge of nutrition, anatomy, physiology and pathology.

A study of PHARMACOLOGY in the context of food-supplements-herbs interactions; this seminar has been designed to assist the alternative medicine health practitioner intelligently deal with the growing matrix of prescription medications in today’s health care and how to work with your clients while respecting the indications and contraindications of their medication regimes.
We will look at over 20 classes of the most commonly prescribed medications in today’s society and help you understand what they are intended to do for your client, how they are performing their work, and what you must be alert to look for and to avoid; what works with and against many of today’s medications in terms of nutrients, supplements and herbs.
We will expand your terminology in the chemical world of prescription medications and help you become alert to recognize the signs of common side effects as well as a medication going south…and taking your client with it.

Introduction to Pharmacology

  • Brief history, statistics;
  • Basic drugs chemistry and routes of administration;
  • General drugs indications and detoxification.

Main classes of drugs

  • Classification; examples;
  • Indications, contraindications, side effects-per class of drugs;
  • The concept of “Side effects of interactions”.

Drugs interactions: what works with and against many of today’s medications; organized per organ systems

  • Main drugs/food interactions;
  • Main drugs/supplements interactions;
  • Main drugs/herbs interactions.

Practical applications

  • Aspects of the world of natural nutrition for the medicated client;
  • Applied detoxification for the medicated client;

  • a quality binder of seminar handouts and accessory materials;
  • lunch plus two brief coffee/tea breaks;
