An introduction to the complete arena of herbal therapy, beginning with a brief visit to the historical roots of this science. We will start with 35 of the more popular herbs in familiar use in today’s herbalist tool kit, examining indications, contraindications and side effects of each. You will begin to learn how to understand these herbs and where and when to utilize them in your clinical practice, how to use them in combinations, and what combinations to avoid.

Introduction to Herbalism

  • Roots, brief history;
  • Phytochemistry of herbs: active ingredients for natural healing;
  • Brief presentation of botanical families.

Study of herbal preparations

  • Main parts used;
  • Preparations of teas, tinctures, syrups, decoctions, poultices and compresses.

Popular herbs used in healing- organized per organ systems

  • Indications, contraindications, side effects;
  • Beneficial herbal combinations;
  • Food/popular herbs combinations and interactions.

Introduction to basic Chinese herbs therapy

  • Principles of Chinese herbal therapy;
  • Examples of a few basic Chinese herbs and their indications.

Practical applications

  • How do we incorporate the aforementioned herbs in clinical practice;
  • Herbal survival kit.

Also provided:

  • a quality binder of seminar handouts and accessory materials;
  • lunch plus two brief coffee/tea breaks;
  • AIM is building towards an accreditation system which will soon provide all registrants who complete any seminar with appropriate Aim credits for professional development/continuing education.
